In many ways, Fayetteville is the beating heart of the Northwest Arkansas Metropolitan area. With a population of more than 95,000, it ranks second in size only to the state capital of Little Rock. The city also serves as home to the state’s educational bellwether, the University of Arkansas. Through this institution, Fayetteville enjoys a deep, statewide connection to untold communities and industries.

Fayetteville’s reputation as a desirable, vibrant home is well-established. In 2021, it ranked near the very top of U.S. News Best Places to Live. It also earned high marks as a retirement destination. Forbes magazine ranks Fayetteville as one of the 40 best American cities in which to do business or pursue a career.

The University of Arkansas plays a major role in the day-to-day culture of Fayetteville. However, the city is much, much more than just a college town. The main entertainment district, Dickson Street, boasts a wealth of stores, shops, and restaurants. It’s also home to the Walton Arts Center, which features:

  • The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas
  • Trike Theatre for Youth
  • The Community Creative Center

No other venue in the state is larger or offers more programs and events. History is also well-represented in Fayetteville. Forty separate locations in town belong to the National Register of Historic Places. Points of interest include:

  • Wilson Park Historic District
  • Washington-Willow Historic District
  • Mount Nord Historic District

In addition, the city abounds in recreational and outdoor opportunities. Its park system totals more than 3,100 acres spread across 70 parks. The 44-acre Botanical Garden of the Ozarks can be found on the east side of town. What’s more, Fayetteville hosts a large segment of Northwest Arkansas’ Razorback Regional Greenway.

These are just some of the many highlights of thriving Fayetteville. To learn more, check out Experience Fayetteville or the official city website.
